A warm welcome to Elizabeth White to the TWC teaching team. Elizabeth lives on Bowen Island and will be subbing for our regular instructors when needed and offering workshops on Movement Integration in the new year.
Elizabeth White studied for 4 years (1990-1994) at The Laban Centre for Movement and Dance, in London England. Rudolph Laban is widely recognized as the most important Movement Theorist of this Century, and the Father of movement Analysis and Modern Dance in Europe. It was during her Movement training that Elizabeth was first introduced to Pilates.
Having completed a Bachelor of Arts in Movement and Dance Elizabeth went on to train in Pilates with The Pilates Foundation, in London UK. Her training required 1600 hours of supervised teaching practise, 400 hours of Anatomy & Physiology, with continued ongoing self practise and class attendance. Elizabeth spread out her training over 4 years (the Mat and The Comprehensive Apparatus). During this time she was fortunate to be trained & mentored by some of London's top teachers. Her main teacher was Anne Marie Zulkahari who was one of Alan Herdmans first students. Anne Marie is a teacher trainer for both Pilates and Yoga, also teaching Gyrotonics. She taught for many years at The Royal Ballet School and now specializes in Somatics and Rehab with 2 studios in London.
Elizabeth received an excellent all round training in Pilates with a particular interest in release based exercises including Alexander technique and Feldenkrais. Other areas of focus covered muscular skeletal disorders and pathologies that demand specific movement and rehabilitation.
During the last 10 years Elizabeth has been exploring integrative Movement and particularly interested in how Feldenkrais, Yoga, Skinner releasing, and Laban movement can support and compliment Pilates. In the New Year Elizabeth will be offering "Laban and Integrative Movement" workshops which will be suitable for All Levels.
